1. Definitions
- “Software” refers to the Ref-Check – Reference Checker & Verifier application and all associated code, data, and content.
- “User” refers to any individual or organisation accessing or using the Software.
- “Company” refers to Ref-Check Ltd.
2. Licence Grant
The Company grants the User a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Software for professional, academic, editorial, research, or institutional purposes, subject to the terms of this agreement.
3. Prohibited Uses
The User must not:
- Modify, adapt, translate, reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software;
- Copy, redistribute, sublicense, lease, or otherwise make the Software available to third parties;
- Integrate any part of the Software into another tool, platform, or product without prior written permission from the Company;
- Use the Software to develop a competing product or service.
4. Ownership
All intellectual property rights in the Software remain the exclusive property of Ref-Check Ltd. No rights or ownership are transferred to the User under this agreement.
5. Disclaimer of Warranty
The Software is provided “as is”, without any warranties, express or implied.
6. Limitation of Liability
The Company shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from use of the Software.
7. Termination
The Company may terminate this licence if the User breaches any part of this agreement. Upon termination, the User must cease all use of the Software.
8. Governing Law
This agreement is governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Third-party attribution
This software makes use of citation styles provided by the Citation Style Language (CSL) project. CSL styles are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License (CC BY-SA 3.0).
Ref-Check uses openly available scholarly metadata from services including Crossref, OpenAlex, Europe PMC, DOAJ, OpenCitations, Open Library, and Unpaywall. We are grateful for the open infrastructure that supports responsible research and citation integrity.
