Accessibility statement

Our approach to accessibility across the Ref-Check website and portal, including design choices made to support neurodiversity and dyslexia.

Accessibility statement

Ref-Check has been developed with neurodiversity and dyslexia in mind. We aim to keep the interface calm, predictable, and low in cognitive load, with clear structure and consistent presentation of information.

Our commitment to accessibility

Ref-Check is committed to making our website and platform as accessible and usable as possible for all users. Accessibility is not treated as an add-on; it is part of how we design, write, and structure the Ref-Check experience.

Ref-Check has been developed with neurodiversity and dyslexia in mind. We aim to keep the interface calm, predictable, and low in cognitive load, with clear structure and consistent presentation of information.

Standards and approach

We aim to follow recognised accessibility principles and good practice, including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

At present, Ref-Check works towards accessibility aligned with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We are actively working towards alignment with WCAG 2.2, informed by ongoing development, testing, and user feedback.

Accessibility is considered across both:

  • the public Ref-Check website, and
  • the Ref-Check portal (the application interface).

Design choices that support neurodiversity and dyslexia

Ref-Check is designed to support users who benefit from clear, consistent presentation, including those with dyslexia and other neurodivergent profiles. Examples include:

  • clear page structure and predictable layout
  • plain, non-technical language wherever possible
  • structured reports that group findings logically
  • consistent spacing and visual hierarchy to support scanning
  • avoidance of unnecessary motion or distracting effects
  • careful use of contrast and readable typography
  • controls and labels designed to reduce ambiguity

Compatibility and assistive technology

Ref-Check is intended to work with modern browsers and common assistive technologies. This includes support for keyboard navigation and compatibility with screen readers, where supported by the user’s device and browser.

Known limitations

We are continually improving accessibility, but some parts of the website or portal may not yet meet every user need. For example:

  • Uploaded documents with complex layouts or scanned (image-only) text may be difficult to interpret.
  • Some interface elements may require further refinement to improve screen reader experience or keyboard focus order.

Where limitations are identified, we aim to address them through ongoing updates and design improvements.

Reporting accessibility issues

If you experience any accessibility barriers when using Ref-Check, please contact us. Where possible, include:

  • the page or feature you were using
  • the device, browser, or assistive technology
  • a brief description of the issue

We will aim to respond promptly and, where practical, provide a workaround.
